Where the UX Stack Made For Smooth Sailing

East Toronto Health Partners

Usually a case study starts with a problem, but there wasn’t really a problem with this one; we just helped them level up.

East Toronto Health Partners were already doing a significant amount of good work in the community. They had a functioning website, but it didn’t fully represent them tonally or effectively communicate the complexity of their community work. Our studio had already made a careful effort to create a branding package that reflected their identity, and my role was to translate that into an easy-to-use digital presence.

Collaboration and Process

Working with their communications team, we engaged users (clients, partners, service providers) to ensure they were involved every step of the way.

We conducted a series of focus groups to refine navigation, to review site architecture and wireframes, and also received valuable input on the landing page design.

We took a structured approach to user testing, making sure the proposed solutions were easy to access and understand.

Usability Counts in the Backend Too

I also ensured that the backend was designed to meet the team’s technical capabilities. As a spec, there were multiple ways to invite volunteers to participate, with various opportunity types and methods of collecting interest (forms, external links, direct email). It was essential that the system was simple and intuitive on both the front and backend. By using clear prompts and questions on the backend, the system remained flexible while presenting a straightforward, user-friendly front end.

Designing for Scalability

While some pages have evolved post-launch (I’d love to refine the Find Services page), most of the site has maintained its original look and feel, which is a testament to making scalability a priority from the beginning.

Post-launch, the site has had minimal issues and remains a benchmark for other local health teams in terms of tone and functionality. In fact, we once had a new client use it as a source of inspiration, unaware that we had created it. It was a smooth, collaborative project with a lasting impact - definitely a "no notes" collaboration!
